The Livingston Parish Council voted unanimously July 9 to authorize the parish president to execute an agreement providing $65,000 in opioid‑settlement funds to the Springfield Police Department for opioid outreach and prevention.
Lehi Lemoine, Livingston Parish’s opioid director, told the council Springfield police requested $65,000 to fund one officer’s salary dedicated to opioid outreach and prevention work and to cover outreach materials, a partial vehicle wrap for a police unit and promotional items. “They’re wanting to provide a salary for one officer strictly dedicated for opioid outreach prevention,” Lemoine said.
A motion to authorize the contract was made by Councilman Coates and seconded by Councilman Watts; the council approved it unanimously.
Council members thanked Springfield Police and parish staff for pursuing targeted uses of the settlement funds and for coordinating with the parish opioid program on local outreach efforts. The resolution directs the parish president to finalize the agreement with Springfield Police.
