At its Feb. 4 meeting the Ogdensburg Borough Board of Education affirmed the Superintendent’s Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) report for January 2025 and approved a package of personnel and program items including field trips, professional development attendance and substitute pay rates.
The motion to approve the personnel/program block was presented by Ms. Schinn and seconded by Ms. Kondik and passed with six board members voting in the affirmative; one member was absent. Approved trips include a Fairview Lake YMCA Camp trip for Ms. Cooper’s class (May 13, 2025), choir and band participation at Wallkill Valley High School (Dec. 28–30), and other outings to The Raptor Trust and Skylands Stadium. Professional-development approvals included IXL Live events and autism-focused workshops; the board recorded estimated individual costs for registration and transportation where provided.
The board also set substitute rates effective Jan. 1, 2025: Substitute Nurse $250 per day; Substitute Teacher $120 per day; Substitute Custodian $15.50 per hour; Substitute Custodian (Black Seal) $18.00 per hour. The board approved a clinical educator placement for Patrick Biernat of William Paterson University, retroactive to Jan. 27, 2025, and appointed Bob Gunderman and Margret McNeir as athletic game coordinators for stipend positions.
The board accepted a $14,500 donation from Sterling Hill Mine to support 8th-grade class trips. Superintendent/Principal David Astor thanked the donor on behalf of the district in the minutes. The vote on the personnel and program block was recorded as AYE — Mr. Mortensen, Mr. Gorsky, Ms. Kondik, Mr. Donegan, Mr. Menendez and Ms. Schinn; ABSENT — Ms. Allen.
