Ogdensburg’s mayor and council approved Resolution 18-2025 on Jan. 13 authorizing submission of a New Jersey Department of Community Affairs recreation grant application to rehabilitate the Ogdensburg Municipal Park, including court rehabilitation, walking paths and playground improvements. Mayor George P. Hutnick said the borough would apply for approximately $191,431 for the project.
The council unanimously adopted the resolution to pursue the grant, which officials said would fund a second phase of park improvements aimed at accessibility and amenities for older residents as well as general playground upgrades.
Separately, councilors approved a Facility Use Application from the Fire Department for a winter festival on Jan. 25 and discussed a separate Facility Use Application from Wallkill Valley Little League. Councilwoman Cowdrick described the Little League request and said the applicant initially sought seven nights per week but that the league later indicated they needed only “two or three nights.” The council asked the applicant to provide a reduced schedule and return with specific days and roster details; the council tabled a final fee and schedule determination pending that information.
Council members also addressed municipally owned vehicles at the former First Aid Squad site. Councilwoman Ruitenberg moved to transfer one ambulance to the Wallkill Valley First Aid Squad; the council authorized the municipal attorney to draft a resolution memorializing any transfer and to prepare auction procedures for other vehicles if needed. The attorney said the process would be memorialized by resolution to keep a clear paper trail and that the council would vote on any transfer or auction at a subsequent meeting.
Other administrative matters covered included planned discussions of an Everbridge notification system, replacement of town signage, moving council email addresses to .gov accounts and scheduling budget preparation meetings ahead of the February cycle.
Next steps: staff will prepare the resolution(s) and facility-use paperwork, follow up with the Little League applicant on a reduced schedule, and present vehicle-transfer or auction resolutions to the council for formal vote.
