Superintendent introduces new hires; Oakwood City honors state‑qualifying student-athletes

In the superintendent’s report the board learned that the December board meeting date has been changed from Dec. 14 to Dec. 7 to satisfy statutory timelines and public-notice requirements. The superintendent then introduced new hires: Taylor Barnes, who the superintendent said will be a kindergarten teacher at Lang School and “has a desire to come and work in a tight‑knit community,” and Molly Witt, introduced as the new school nurse at Smith School with prior experience in emergency room care, school nursing and medical oncology.
Taylor Barnes spoke briefly at the podium: “I went to the University of Dayton for undergrad. I taught 1st grade at St. Margaret of York for 2 years. I’ve heard wonderful things about Oakland Schools, and I’m so excited to work at Lane in kindergarten and be a part of the Oakland Gateway.” Molly Witt also introduced herself, saying she trained at Kettering College and holds a school nurse license from Ashland University and is “really excited for this opportunity.” (Transcript spelling and agency names were normalized to Oakwood City Schools in this report.)
The board also honored spring sports athletes. The superintendent and athletic director noted a strong tennis season, a doubles team that qualified for state and a number of track qualifiers and placers, including an individual state champion in the 3,200‑meter run. Representative Andrea White — introduced at the meeting — and Senator Rose Blackshear attended and offered commendations; Representative White said she was proud to honor the students and noted the Ohio House’s practice of issuing commendations for state qualifiers.
The superintendent acknowledged retirees, including Tony Rainsberger, thanked coaches and staff for their work with student athletes, and invited students and board members to take photos with awards.
What happens next: The personnel approvals read into the record will be finalized through human-resources processing. The board asked staff to publish meeting and personnel actions per standard procedures.
