Police chief reports no contact with new hire; council to continue search for part-time officer

Police Chief David Pernice told the Union City Borough Council on Aug. 27 that he has been unable to reach a candidate previously approved for hire and assumes the person is no longer interested. "He said he has tried to make contact but has had no luck," the minutes record.
Pernice told council there are 32 candidates remaining on the consortium list and that, while he would like to hire two part-time officers to expand coverage, only one part-time position has been approved by the council. He said he will check with the Civil Service Commission to set up oral exams and will send letters to candidates as part of the recruitment process. Council agreed to continue searching for one part-time officer.
