Superintendent’s report: district goals, attendance and $26.3 million in student scholarships

The Orange Board of Education heard the Superintendent’s report and year-end district update April 9, which included goals, attendance metrics and scholarship earnings.
Mr. Scutari presented the district’s year-end goals with a focus on four areas: 21st Century integration (including a target that 60% of students meet or exceed growth goals in Math, ELA and Science and a 5-point NJSLA increase), community engagement, facilities and finance, and social-emotional learning. Mr. Scutari also presented the March attendance report, saying the district matched the state’s daily attendance average of 96% and that 14% of students were in the high chronic absence category.
Ms. Alcantara introduced the March Students of the Month and highlighted observances including National Assistant Principals’ Week, National Paraprofessional Appreciation Day and Week of the Young Child. She announced that, as of April 9, Orange High School and STEM Innovation Academy had earned a combined $26.3 million in scholarships ($12.3 million from Orange High School and $14 million from STEM Innovation Academy) and said award totals are continuing to grow.
Mr. Ballard provided facilities-related announcements and district closures for spring break and a holiday in April; he closed the Superintendent’s report by encouraging the public to follow district communications channels for updates.
The board approved prior meeting minutes and moved into public comment following the Superintendent’s report.
