Oldmans Committee reviews ARP spending request, approves junior firefighter and authorizes clerk to pursue housing purchases in executive session

At its Aug. 14 meeting, the Oldmans Township Committee reviewed operational spending requests and public concerns, approved a junior fire-company membership and, following executive session, authorized the municipal clerk to pursue possible affordable housing purchases.
Committee members reviewed a chart prepared by municipal staff (Ms. Elwell) showing what American Rescue Plan funds had been encumbered and spent. Auburn Volunteer Fire Company requested reallocating previously encumbered ARP funds toward a new floor and a generator. Committee members Dean Sparks and Mayor David Murphy said they would consult with Ms. Elwell to determine whether a floor could be considered a safety-related expense. Mr. Ferrell abstained from the discussion.
The Committee approved the junior membership application of Lucas Woronicak to the Auburn Volunteer Fire Company; Mr. Sparks moved and Mr. Murphy seconded; Mr. Ferrell abstained from that vote.
During public comment, residents raised multiple local enforcement issues: requests to clarify that two letters of credit were released for Phase 1 only; questions about the status of 191 N. Railroad and a scheduled court date of Sept. 20 to remove tenants; concern about an alleged illegal campground on Route 130 and a bench warrant issued after a court nonappearance; and questions about fencing and tree growth on property slated for future development.
The Committee entered executive session under Resolution 2024-109 to discuss NJDEP service line requirements, affordable housing purchase consideration, and zoning-violation litigation. At the session's conclusion, the Committee authorized Municipal Clerk Melinda Taylor to act on behalf of the municipality to seek potential purchases for affordable housing units; the motion was made by Mr. Sparks, seconded by Mr. Ferrell, and agreed to by all.
