Marshall board adopts 2025 municipal and utility budgets, cuts levy by $1,600

The Marshall Village Board on Nov. 12 approved Resolution 2024-06 to adopt the village’s 2025 municipal and water/sewer utility budgets and set the municipal tax levy, with board members voting 6-0 to approve the measure.

Administrator Brandon Bledsoe opened a public hearing at 7:23 p.m. and summarized changes since the board’s budget workshop, saying the overall municipal levy would decrease by $1,600 from the prior year. Trustee Edward Schmitz asked for clarification about a line item labeled “Village Board Operations”; Bledsoe and Clerk Michael Wetzel said that prior bookkeeping issues had contributed to adjustments. Wetzel also explained an uptick in the elections-supplies line to cover new voting booths, signage, crowd-control equipment and storage, and said cleaning-service costs rose because the larger building requires expanded scope and annual deep-cleaning of floors and windows.

After the hearing closed, Trustee Jason Pitzer moved to adopt Resolution 2024-06; Trustee Edward Schmitz seconded. The motion carried 6-0.
