Police and fire chiefs report monthly activity; council accepts reports

Victoria — At its May 13 meeting the Town Council received routine monthly reports from the police and fire departments and voted to accept both reports.
Police Chief Camden Lawson told council the department answered 370 calls during the reporting period, issued 37 summons and made 12 arrests. He said the department is testing electronic summons software and that two of six Flock cameras have been installed (Poorhouse Road and Mecklenburg Avenue). Chief Lawson also announced a new hire, Hunner Bosher, who will start June 1 and enter the police academy on June 17.
Fire Chief Frankie Tanner reported 87 responses in April across Stations 2 and 7 and provided the March financial report. Chief Tanner described plans to purchase a 2004 95-foot mid-mount platform fire truck from Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department; the truck is expected to be available in September and placed in service by year-end. Assistant Chief Garrett said the department's new drug box policy is implemented, the department has a DEA control number, and medications are back on the truck.
Council moved to accept the Police Report and the Fire/Rescue Department report; both motions carried.
Why it matters: The camera installations and a new officer are part of ongoing public-safety capacity building; the planned aerial truck represents a significant apparatus acquisition for fire operations.
