Oxford Township’s Committee voted Nov. 13 to designate a township-owned property, Block 45 Lot 1, as an Area in Need of Redevelopment under the Local Redevelopment and Housing Law.
The designation was made as a Non‑Condemnation Redevelopment Area, meaning the committee authorized the redevelopment powers provided by the Legislature except eminent domain. The action follows a preliminary investigation and a unanimous Planning Board recommendation after a public hearing and a report prepared by Township Planner Timothy M. O’Brien (VanCleef Engineering Associates).
The resolution directs the Township Clerk to transmit a certified copy of the committee’s determination to the New Jersey Commissioner of Community Affairs for review. The resolution notes that the determination does not take effect until the Commissioner’s review; if the Commissioner does not respond within 30 calendar days, the designation is deemed approved by operation of law.
Georgette Miller moved the measure; Linda Koufodontes seconded and the motion passed with three ayes. The committee’s designation starts the formal state review process under N.J.S.A. 40A:12A-1 et seq.
Provenance: Planning Board recommendation and committee action recorded in the meeting (SEG 012–SEG 013).
