Public comment at the March 12 Oldmans Township Committee meeting included concerns about streetlight outages and questions about the airport hazard area designation.
Keith Walton said he believes the Airport Hazard Area is null and void once the airport closed. Melody Reese and Janet Bowe reported repeated streetlight outages and said they have reported the problems to ACE; Scott Myers confirmed outages have been reported to ACE. These concerns were recorded during the public-comment portion of the meeting.
In commissioner reports Jeff Newman announced school-related items including a memorial dedication for the Gaudreau brothers and noted a school board vacancy was postponed. He also reported that Main Street in Auburn is scheduled to be repaved in approximately two years and that a collapsed pipe under Perkintown Road will be fixed. Commissioner Taylor said an animal shelter task force of about 12–15 volunteers — including representatives from the Salem County Department of Health, Sheriff’s Department and Prosecutor’s Office and legislative delegates — will meet in mid-March to explore short-term shelter solutions and potential state funding; results are to be reported at the April 16 commissioners meeting.
Commissioner Sparks reminded residents about responsibilities for trash and recycling containers and suggested the township recover containers left at vacant houses; Mr. DiNicola said staff would send letters to property owners and could retrieve containers if owners do not return them.
Next steps: Staff to contact ACE for streetlight follow-up as noted, schedule the animal shelter task force meeting and report results in April, and pursue policy steps regarding containers at vacant properties.
