The Oldmans Township Committee on Sept. 11 approved a temporary closure of S. Railroad Avenue for Pedricktown Day and heard updates on several road and traffic matters.
Public works staff said the repaving of New Road will be advertised for bids soon and that the NJ Turnpike Authority is designing a turnaround for emergency vehicles as part of a widening project in the township; a public meeting on the Turnpike design is scheduled for the week of Nov. 18 and fire chiefs were encouraged to attend. Separately, the county postponed the repaving of Straughns Mill Road (Route 295 to Pennsville-Auburn Road) due to a lack of funding and is expected to include it in a future round of road improvements possibly two years from now.
Dean Sparks described a resident request to reduce the speed limit at the Auburn village entry because of inconsistent signage (45 vs. 50 mph). Commissioner Cordy Taylor said the township might use a previous traffic study to support a speed reduction and that a resolution to county commissioners would be required to pursue the change.
Next steps: staff will issue the New Road bid, the township will monitor the Turnpike Authority schedule and staff will coordinate any needed traffic studies and formal requests to the county.
