Oxford Township suspends fees for fire-damaged home, cancels small sewer interest and approves bills

At its Oct. 16 meeting the Oxford Township Committee suspended sewer and garbage fees for 341 Route 31 while the home remains uninhabitable after a fire, authorized cancellation of $34.01 in accrued interest on a sewer account, approved payment of bills presented and heard routine administrator, engineer and police updates.
The Oxford Township Committee on Oct. 16 approved a package of administrative measures including suspending utilities for a fire-damaged property, canceling a small accrued sewer-interest balance, and approving bills presented by the township clerk.
RESOLUTION NO. 2024-123 authorized suspension of sewer and garbage fees for 341 Route 31 after the property owner notified the township that the structure is uninhabitable due to fire damage. The resolution states the suspension will remain in place until the township receives a temporary or final certificate of occupancy (TCO/CO) for the property. Mayor Gerald Norton moved the resolution; Georgette Miller seconded and the motion passed by roll call (Ayes: 2).
The Committee also adopted RESOLUTION NO. 2024-122 directing the tax collector to cancel $34.01 in accrued interest on sewer account #9853-0 for 41 Wingedfoot Lane after the township determined an earlier payment had been misapplied to a duplicate account. Georgette Miller moved to approve the resolution, Mayor Norton seconded; the motion passed (Ayes: 2).
The Committee voted to pay all bills presented at the meeting; the bill register printed with the meeting materials shows totals across funds of $762,461.78 (Current Fund and Sewer Operating totals listed on the register). The roll-call motion to pay bills was made by Georgette Miller and seconded by Mayor Norton; the motion passed as recorded.
In reports, Administrator Matt Hall said he is working with the chief financial officer on the 2025 budget, pursuing a state Department of Transportation sign permit, and meeting with vendors about energy contracts for township buildings and street lighting. Engineer Mike Finelli said work on Port Colden and Wall Street is awaiting DOT action. Township Attorney Rich Wenner referenced executive-session topics including litigation and contractual matters; no formal action was taken in executive session.
Lt. Smith of the Washington Police Department asked the Committee to place an officer at the corner of Belvidere and Lincoln for Halloween safety; the Committee agreed. Committee member Georgette Miller announced the township tree-lighting event will be held Dec. 7, 2024, from 3–5 p.m., with Ms. Hoffman coordinating the event.
Resident Dennis White asked about the cancellation of fees for a parcel listed as B1 33 L 4.01 and about a resolution of support for GSCC; the minutes record his question but show no action on those items during the meeting. The Committee entered a second executive session at 7:17 PM to discuss contractual items, litigation and insurance; it returned at 7:31 PM with no action taken and adjourned at 7:32 PM.
