Oxford Township’s governing committee voted Oct. 16 to adopt Ordinance 2024-14, which vacates a 12-foot-wide, approximately 155-foot-long unnamed alley running between Scharrer Place and Block 13, Lot 1 in Oxford, Warren County.
The ordinance was the subject of a second reading and public hearing at the Township Municipal Building. The ordinance text states that the municipal engineer reviewed the proposed vacation and determined the change is consistent with the public interest and would enable improvements to surrounding property without detriment to the public. No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
Georgette Miller moved to approve Ordinance 2024-14; Mayor Gerald Norton seconded the motion, which passed by roll call with Ayes: 2, Nays: 0, Abstain: 0, Absent: 1. The ordinance’s legal description included metes and bounds for the alley: beginning at Scharrer Place, running southerly along the easterly sideline of the 12-foot-wide unnamed alley approximately 155 feet, then westerly 12 feet and northerly along the westerly sideline back to Scharrer Place.
The ordinance text includes a severability clause and states it will take effect upon final passage and publication as provided by law.
The Committee’s adoption removes public rights, interests and title arising from dedication of that paper street as described in the ordinance; the municipal engineer’s review is cited in the ordinance as the municipal finding supporting the change.
The Committee returned to other agenda items after the vote; the record shows the vote count but not individual member vote names beyond those recorded as present in the meeting attendance.
