Oxford committee directs Planning Board to reexamine master plan to address revenue losses and explore economic development

Mayor Gerald Norton moved the resolution; Georgette Miller seconded it. The motion passed by roll-call vote with three ayes, no nays and no abstentions. Township Planner Tim O’Brien told the committee the Master Plan and zoning map should be revisited to set new goals and objectives. Township Attorney Rich Wenner described the Master Plan as the governing document guiding the town’s development.
The resolution requests the Planning Board prepare a report of findings and recommendations under N.J.S.A. 40:55D-89. The committee’s resolution notes the township has tried to attract new businesses and industries to improve revenue and explicitly cites exploring opportunities in the cannabis cultivation and manufacturing sectors as one potential development focus.
Committee members did not set a deadline in the meeting for the Planning Board’s report; the resolution instructs the board to submit findings “without delay.” The committee also directed staff to memorialize the resolution in the meeting record.
What happens next: The Planning Board will undertake the reexamination and issue a report with recommended changes to goals, objectives or the zoning map. Any proposed ordinance or map amendments would return to the Township Committee for hearings and formal adoption.
