Victoria council declares surplus equipment, approves $11,000 water-plant appropriation and hears community events updates

At its April 8 meeting the Victoria Town Council approved several administrative items: declaring town equipment surplus, appropriating $11,000 to the water-plant filter budget and receiving multiple community-event updates.
Town Manager Rodney Newton asked the council to declare several pieces of equipment surplus, including a 2003 Ford F-150 (VIN 2FTRX08W43CB09988), an Orsi hydraulic flail mower (S/N 16844), a Kubota ZD 1211 and a Massey Ferguson 245 tractor and bushhog (S/N 9A-29833). Councilmember James G. Elam, Jr., moved and Councilmember Sandra Jones seconded the motion to declare the equipment surplus; the motion carried. Newton said the Ford F-150 has already been sold and other items may be listed through GOV.deals.
On utilities, Newton reported supplies are on hand for the Tidewater Avenue wastewater project and crews expect to start within two weeks once pavement milling is scheduled. He also said the west lagoon closure continues and he will meet with Meridian Waste about leachate handling. Newton reported a failure of the VFW sewer pump; the pump alone is about $5,000 not including controls and installation; he will provide an update in next month’s report. The council approved an appropriation of $11,000 from the Water O&M Fund to the Filter Plant budget on a motion by Councilmember Elam, seconded by Councilmember Brame; the motion carried.
Parks and events updates came from William Pernell: a Food Truck Rodeo on April 9 with seven vendors, a community Easter Egg Hunt on April 19 co-sponsored by the "Klassy Diva’s" Social Club, the start of Music in the Park on April 18 and plans for a July 18 concert supported in part by a Virginia Commission for the Arts grant (the VCA will cover half the performance fee and the town intends to sell tickets to offset costs). Pernell also said the town purchased new skate rentals (65 skates, with 35 more expected) and that Meridian Waste will donate $10,000 toward the skates; Pernell will attend the Board of Supervisors meeting on April 10 to receive the donation.
Council approved these administrative items and took no further action at the April 8 meeting.
