Council hears $390,849 pool renovation proposal; member doubts affordability

Gill said he and Councilmember Garrett have been working with the contractor for several months but added, "I don’t see how the town can afford to do this."
Town Manager Rodney Newton said the USDA Community Facilities grant program had been contacted but that a stand‑alone pool does not qualify for that funding; he said the program is more applicable to fire and police stations or community centers. Council did not take action to fund the renovation during the meeting.
The proposal was presented as part of informational items and no motion to appropriate funds or to pursue a specific funding path was recorded in the minutes. Councilmembers and staff will need to identify potential funding sources or grants if they want to advance the project.
