Road superintendent outlines bridge work, signals tougher work‑zone enforcement

The county’s road superintendent told the commission the department plans to begin work on two bridges in Bogart later this week and that beams have been ordered in a way to stay below a $12,000 purchasing threshold by splitting purchases when possible.

He said the county will not accept dirt taken from private properties by building ponds to obtain fill; instead, crews will bring in required fill material to avoid future liability if a privately built pond fails and damages county infrastructure. The superintendent said the county will close roads in some townships while crews work and will not tolerate harassment of employees at work sites.

"If these people persist to come down there and sit on their closed road, we're gonna do one of two things," the superintendent said, warning of potential trespassing charges and other legal action if citizens interfere with operations. Commissioners acknowledged the need to coordinate closures with local townships and to notify residents ahead of closures.

Commissioners also asked staff to survey sites and lay out work so teams are aligned on scope and timing; cold-mix patching and routine road maintenance were described as recently completed in other locations. The commission noted follow-up actions to notify concerned residents and to schedule the next on-site work.
