Lawnside reports slight gains on state tests; director outlines steps to continue progress

The district reported overall slight growth in each tested content area and reiterated district improvement goals adopted at the July 31 board retreat: by June 2025 the district aims for 25% of students to demonstrate grade‑level proficiency in ELA (Linkit benchmark), 11.4% proficiency in math and a 50% target for writing proficiency (grades 3–8 at a score of "3" and K–2 at a score of "2" on a district rubric). Enrollment was reported at 345 students with an ADA of 326.
Ms. Miller provided a handout to board members, thanked staff and the community "for all of their time and effort to help with this slight achievement," and outlined professional development opportunities the district will pursue, including Rutgers workshops and an AI‑tools training. The minutes also note that Spanish classes for grades 3–8 are provided via the Elevate K‑12 online platform and that District staff are participating in Civically Engaged Districts programming.
Superintendent Dr. Ronn H. Johnson congratulated Ms. Miller on her acceptance to Wilmington University for doctoral study and said the district looks forward to supporting her continued professional development.

The board asked clarifying questions about staffing and why certain business‑office items were posted as interim/shared positions given mid‑year timing; Dr. Johnson explained the rationale and timeline for an interim/shared posting.
