Victoria council hears police and fire updates; department software deployed

Police Chief Camden Lawson reported to the Town Council on Sept. 10 that the department handled 167 calls in August, made two arrests and issued 16 citations. "The new software system, ID Networks, is up and running," Chief Lawson said, adding that the program has been installed on all office computers and in officers' cars for reporting use and that the department has adjusted to the new system without major issues.
Chief Lawson also reported six previously inoperable vehicles were removed after being red-tagged and that 13 additional vehicles have been tagged, for a total of 18 vehicles moved since the start of the process. He noted two new candidates in the police academy completed firearms training in early August and are progressing toward a Dec. 18 graduation in Lynchburg, VA. Council accepted the police report (motion: Councilmember Johnnie Brame; second: Councilmember Ronald Mattox).
Fire Chief Frankie Tanner told the council the department recorded 124 responses for August. Tanner said the department did not present a financial report at the meeting because of issues with the billing company and the Labor Day holiday; he said two financial reports will be available at the next meeting. Chief Tanner also updated the council on Tanker 2-1, which remains out of service but is expected to return to service within weeks, and announced the Truck-n-Tractor Pull scheduled for Oct. 12 (gates 4:00 p.m., pull 6:00 p.m.). Council approved the fire department report (motion: Councilmember Ronald Mattox; second: Councilmember Johnnie Brame).
