Garfield council allows CARDS to settle dumpster debt by waiving one month of trash charges

Garfield City Council members on July 8 approved a settlement allowing CARDS to resolve a debt for a Benton County dumpster expense by waiving one month of the city’s current trash invoice charges.
Mayor Gary Blackburn reported he had discussed the matter with Jason Fitzgerald, who offered to settle the debt by waiving one month of trash charges. Council Member Kitterman moved to allow CARDS to settle the debt in that manner; Council Member Smead seconded the motion. The council voted unanimously to approve the settlement.
The minutes do not specify the dollar amount of the debt or which account will be credited; staff follow-up will be required to document the financial accounting of the waiver.
