Random Lake board okays temporary pier repairs at Bob McDermott Lakeview Park over trustee objections

The Random Lake Village Board voted 6-1 on April 20 to authorize a temporary repair of the concrete pier at Bob McDermott Lakeview Park and to fund the work from the park’s savings account.
President Duane Urbanski presented a contractor quote described as a more involved temporary repair that includes dowel rods and saw cutting to secure concrete that is breaking away from the wall. Clerk/Treasurer Stephanie Waala pointed out those elements, saying the quote is "more involved than just crack filling."
Trustee Blaine Werner said he believed the crack could be filled with mastic and urged the board to obtain a second quote from sidewalk contractors. "I believe the crack can just be filled in with mastic and they should get a second quote from the sidewalk contractors," Werner said. Trustee Chuck Mueller also recommended getting a second quote.
Trustee Chuck Mueller moved to approve the submitted quote with funds to come from the Bob McDermott Lakeview Park Savings account; Trustee Jamie Vorpahl seconded. The motion passed 6-1 with Trustee Blaine Werner voting no.
Clerk/Treasurer Waala noted the board could close the pier for the summer as an alternative, but President Urbanski said closing the piers would still present a safety hazard. The board instructed Public Works to proceed with the temporary repairs; minutes show a recommended follow-up to consider obtaining an additional quote.
