Supervisor Long’s office clarifies Nyeland Acres CFD, flags 3% sewer-rate increase and announces community cleanups

Ariana Castellanos-Rodriguez, representing Supervisor Kelly Long’s office, briefed the El Rio/Del Norte Municipal Advisory Council on multiple community items at the May 15 meeting. She announced two community cleanup dates (El Rio at Eternal Life Church on June 14 and Nyeland Acres at the Nyeland Acres Community Center on Oct. 25), said a recorded fire forum is available in English and Spanish on the supervisor’s website, and reminded board members to complete mandatory ethics training.
Castellanos-Rodriguez clarified questions about the Nyeland Acres Community Facilities District (CFD), saying the CFD was created and voted on by the Nyeland Acres community in 2016 to fund maintenance and utilities via a special tax. She said Supervisor Long worked with the current Board of Supervisors to reduce that special tax to $0 and that the supervisor does not plan to restore the charge during her remaining term, though the CFD remains an available mechanism if the community later requests additional services.
Castellanos-Rodriguez also noted a 3% sewer-rate increase this year; residents received a Proposition 218 notice from the PWA Water and Sanitation Department explaining why rates are changing and how to protest. She said the sewer-rate item will come before the Board of Supervisors on June 24 and that residents may appear at that hearing.
