Palmyra board approves policies, contracts, personnel actions and construction updates

The Palmyra Board of Education on Oct. 9, 2024 approved a slate of policy, finance and personnel measures, accepted construction and safety updates from district staff, and heard public comment about auditorium renovations and choir staffing.
Consent agenda items approved by motion of Ms. Campbell and second by Ms. Allen-Yoakum included enrollment and health reports, HIB/SSDS reporting, volunteers, fire and safety drills, the bill list, secretary and treasurer reports, transfer reports, and minutes. The minutes record that the board approved the consent agenda with nine votes in favor; Mr. Toner abstained on one minutes item (9.01j).
Policy and curriculum approvals included abolishing P 0164.6 (Remote Public Board Meetings During a Declared Emergency) and revising multiple policies covering board membership, curriculum content, physical examinations, service animals, student suicide prevention, emergency and crisis responses, firearms and weapons, volunteer coaches/advisors, and attendance regulation R 5200.
On business and contracts, the board accepted tutoring contracts with Hey Tutor for Charles Street School and Palmyra High School for 2024–25, authorized a joint transportation agreement with Northern Region ESC for Route Q3665 at $318 per diem, approved a CPI training contract (Brett DiNovi & Associates, LLC) to train six staff on Oct. 14, 2024 at a cost of $1,321.44, and accepted preschool aid and related preschool-plan filings.
The board also approved multiple out-of-district placements at BCSSSD (with listed tuition amounts) and two placements at BCSSSD Alternative School, and authorized homebound instruction for two students with specified weekly hours. Several personnel motions were approved, including substitute custodians and paraprofessionals, volunteer advisors for new clubs, and staff participation on the Burlington County School Crisis Response Team.
During public comment Jessica Shedaker complimented the recent high-school open house and requested a make-up shadow day; Kelly Gallagher asked whether choir staff could support State Choir and raised concern about where the spring musical will be held amid construction; Rene Fusco urged the board to consider equivalent accommodations for the school play when planning auditorium renovations. The minutes do not record formal responses to these requests.
The meeting concluded with committee updates and adjournment at 8:16 p.m.
