Palmyra board accepts several hires and resignations; MS/HS principal to depart Oct. 1

The Palmyra Public School District Board of Education approved a slate of personnel actions on Aug. 7 that included hires, internships, coaching and extracurricular appointments, and several resignations.
The board accepted the Superintendent’s appointment of Florencia Norton as Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Preschool Principal effective July 1, 2024; Norton was previously described in the record as principal of the Preschool building and Director of Curriculum. The board also approved classroom hires, long-term substitutes, and extracurricular stipend positions, including JV and varsity coaching appointments and advisors for school clubs.
The board accepted multiple resignations filed with the district, including John Yoon (high‑school science teacher) effective July 3, 2024, and Lisa Sabo, Palmyra Middle & High School principal, effective Oct. 1, 2024. The minutes record that a Principal Search Committee has been created and interviews for the MS/HS vacancy will begin Aug. 19.
Personnel motions were approved by roll call where indicated; one abstention was recorded on a related vote. The district also approved student-teacher placements and university internships for the 2024–25 school year.
The board did not take additional public action on staffing levels during the meeting; several staff raised concerns about staffing and transparency during the public forum (see separate article).
