Pocahontas County supervisors deny proposed LEC expansion after motion fails for lack of second

The Pocahontas County Board of Supervisors on June 30 voted 4-1 to deny a proposal to expand the Law Enforcement Center’s West Gen population unit by six beds.
John Hansen, a representative of Midwest Construction Consultants, presented bids and said the project would use remaining bond funds plus additional county funds to construct an upper-level expansion adding six beds. Supervisor Kyle Smith moved to approve the expansion, but the motion died for lack of a second. Supervisor Clarence Siepker then moved, and Supervisor Brent Aden seconded, a motion to deny the proposed LEC expansion; Supervisors Peter Seehusen, Siepker, Chairman Louis Stauter and Aden voted aye and Smith voted nay. The motion carried.
