DCEDC outlines grants, site planning and workforce training in county update

Bob Grewe, Executive Director of the Daviess County Economic Development Corporation, provided a multi-part update to the commissioners on economic development and workforce initiatives.
Grewe said the DCEDC received a Duke Energy grant that will fund a welcome guide for new residents and that the organization is working on media and site-designation efforts related to CSX; he noted CSX will no longer perform rail siding inspections. Grewe reported that the Washington Data Center project is generating local interest and currently awaits action by the Washington City Council.
He highlighted recent successes and ongoing projects, including Discover Downtown Washington achieving Indiana Accredited Main Street status, assistance to WTEC (Wagler Education Center) as it installs new machinery and pursues land-acquisition and building expansion options, and efforts with North Daviess Community Growth Alliance on downtown development ideas. The DCEDC is working on a CSX Select Site media announcement and is assisting WTEC with tax abatement paperwork and planning for a ribbon-cutting when operations begin.
Grewe also described workforce and training activities: a planned marketing video and signage work for Westgate @ Crane Technology Park (partly funded by a $5,000 Duke Energy grant and $5,000 marketing investment), collaboration with Purdue Manufacturing Extension Partnership to identify 2026 training opportunities, an Ivy Tech IT Coding Academy spring semester (five students noted), and an upcoming QuickBooks training event April 22–23. He said the DCEDC continues to pursue FAA funding for a hangar at the county airport and is monitoring incentives such as New Markets Tax Credits and Opportunity Zone opportunities.
The presentation was informational; commissioners did not take direct action on DCEDC items during the meeting. Grewe said grant and site-development work is ongoing and that interested parties should follow up with DCEDC for status and next steps.
