The Village of Catskill Planning Board on June 9 approved a storefront sign for the Kaaterskill Market at 355 Main St. and a rear-yard fence at 20 New St., and heard residents urge quicker action on a property at 80 Woodland Ave.
Tristan Fitch presented the sign proposal and noted that building owner Jeanette King had emailed consent. Sam Perez moved that the board assume lead agency for the 355 Main St. sign; Michele Pulver moved a Motion of Appropriateness, which Anthony Petrianni seconded. The board voted unanimously to approve the sign, with members saying it fits village regulations.
Juan Mojica sought approval for a fence at 20 New St.; after discussion that referenced zoning code 4.10 (height limits) and the lot’s rear location, Ann Gibbons moved a Motion of Appropriateness and Jay Lesenger seconded. The board designated the proposal Type 2 and approved the fence.
During public comment, resident Lisa Marafiotti read a prepared statement raising multiple concerns about the property at 80 Woodland Ave, including that required clean-up actions had not been completed by May 21 and that Planning Board minutes for April 14 and 28 were missing from posted records. Neighbor Kathy Keslick said the site presented a threat to the community, citing open holes and inappropriate lighting for a construction site. Chair Gilbert Bagnell said he would pass the concerns to code enforcement and noted the property is currently in litigation, limiting the board’s immediate actions.
The board also briefly discussed ongoing negotiations with developers about lots behind the Price Chopper, agreed to place an update to the code-enforcement brochure on the next agenda, and decided to revisit a proposal to recognize a local homeowner for notable improvements. Wayne Thompson later reminded members about joint training with the Zoning Board of Appeals.
