Mason board approves energy assessment, 25 iPads and several policy changes

The Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education on Oct. 1 approved a set of operational and policy actions, including an energy-assessment contract, a technology purchase and multiple policy revisions.
The board accepted an agreement with Trane Technologies for a Comprehensive Energy Assessment (motion by Fowler, supported by Waller), approved the purchase of 25 Apple iPads and cases for the elementary at a total cost of $25,373.75 from Technology Enhancement Millage Funds (motion by Waller, supported by Fowler), and authorized staff attendance at two conferences: Abby Kohler to the Michigan World Language Conference (Oct. 23–24, 2025) and Courtney Hammond to the MSBO Facilities and Operations Conference (Oct. 5–7, 2025). The motions on these items carried 4-0.
The board also approved Thrun Law Firm–recommended policy revisions (3110, 3115, 3115A, 3118, 3407, 4407, 4408, 5411, 5701, 5712 earlier on the consent agenda and later 3201A, 4105B, 5407), approved a revised Emergency Operations Plan and intentionally left Policy 3121 blank. All policy and EOP approvals passed on recorded motions with unanimous 4-0 votes.
Funding context: the iPad purchase was explicitly charged to the district’s Technology Enhancement Millage Funds. District leaders also noted the board plans to ask Monroe County voters in May to continue support for the district’s longstanding Technology Millage, the main local revenue source used for classroom and staff technology.

The board noted operations staff is pursuing additional safety assessments for stadium and field areas with Lockout USA, and administrators continue to monitor state budget developments that could affect school funding. The board’s next regular meeting is Nov. 5, 2025.
