Chesterfield selectmen set inclement-weather decision process for closures and pay

At its Jan. 21 meeting the Chesterfield Board of Selectmen agreed on a process for inclement-weather decisions: the chair or vice chair will decide on delays or closings after consulting the Town Administrator and receiving input from the Road Agent and the Police Department.
Fran Shippee told the board she spoke with the school about its policy — hourly school employees do not receive pay for snow days — and noted that library employees are paid when the Library Director closes for weather. The draft policy discussed at the meeting says that if the Town issues a delay or closing, employees will be paid; if the Town does not issue a delay or closing, employees may take vacation, sick time or an unpaid day if they judge travel unsafe.
The board agreed the decision will be posted to the Town website, the Chesterfield Community Facebook page and on the Town Hall door. The minutes do not indicate the board took a recorded roll-call vote adopting a formal written policy at this meeting; they record agreement on the decision process and the posting plan.
The board handled other agenda items at the same meeting, including several TABLED personnel and procurement items and scheduling a sealed-minutes review for Jan. 24 after the budget public hearing.
