Chesterfield Fire & Rescue reviews 2026 budget, approves potential $5,000 reserve contribution

Chesterfield Fire & Rescue Precinct members reviewed year-end finances and 2026 budget materials at their Jan. 13 meeting and voted to authorize a potential $5,000 contribution from the precinct’s unassigned fund balance to revenues in September.
Chairman McKim Mitchell opened the meeting at 4:32 p.m. and Commissioners approved the Dec. 20 minutes on a motion by Commissioner Richard Finkenstadt, seconded by Jeff Titus; the motion passed unanimously. The treasurer reported a budget balance of $175,500 and year-to-date expenditures of $172,782.21, leaving $2,717.79 to be added to the Unassigned Fund Balance.
Commissioners reviewed the Budget Statement and Financial Statement compiled for the Annual Report and discussed the proposed 2026 budget and revenue projections. Commissioner Jeff Titus moved to potentially contribute $5,000 from the Unassigned Fund Balance to revenues in September; Richard Finkenstadt seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
The board noted several related budget items to be examined by the Budget Committee: a public hearing is scheduled for Jan. 24; mutual aid agreements and the Keene ambulance contract are listed as current items to be reviewed. The precinct’s forestry budget with the Town will decrease to $1,000, and the Expendable Trust is set to increase to $5,000 as reflected in the budget documents reviewed by commissioners.
The meeting record does not show final adoption of the 2026 budget; it records that materials were reviewed and a public hearing will follow. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Feb. 17 at 4:30 p.m. and adjourned at 5:23 p.m. after a motion by Finkenstadt, seconded by Titus, which passed unanimously.
