The Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education on Aug. 6, 2025, approved the district's 2025'26 tax rate and a series of vendor contracts, equipment purchases and personnel actions at a regular meeting in the Mason Senior High School IVN room. All recorded motions carried 5-0.
President John Otting called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. and the board approved an amended agenda on a motion by board member Grodi, supported by John Waller. The minutes record that Josh Dyer of Comprehensive Energy Solutions made a presentation; the minutes do not include details of that presentation.
Why it matters: the actions finalize budget-related decisions and authorize district spending from general and food-service fund balances, and they commit the district to vendor contracts and personnel hires that will take effect in the 2025'26 school year.
The board's formal actions included acceptance of a vendor quote from Monroe Plumbing and Heating Company for a Filter First Fixture Replacement and Installation Project at $65,050 and acceptance of a separate Monroe Plumbing and Heating quote to replace the weightroom rooftop unit (RTU); the minutes record the RTU quote was accepted but do not list a dollar amount. The board also authorized a contract with ATI Holdings, LLC to provide athletic trainer services.
Using excess food-service fund balance, the board approved two kitchen purchases: a Hobart model dishwasher from TriMark SS Kemp for $41,251 and a True Manufacturing three-door refrigerator for $7,728.38. The board approved 2025'26 individual employee contracts and formally adopted the district's 2025'26 tax rate. Every motion on those items was moved and seconded as recorded in the minutes and carried 5-0.
On personnel items, the board approved rehiring Kelsey Cole as a middle-school English teacher at Step 11 MA with a salary of $69,203. The board also approved hiring Traci Fackelman for middle-school special education at Step 10 BA, pending favorable criminal-history, reference and background checks; that conditional hire was approved on a motion by Waller, supported by England and carried 5-0.
The consent agenda, approved earlier in the meeting by motion of Grodi and support of England, included approval of the July 9, 2025 meeting minutes; the 2025'26 CES, MMS and MSHS/MAVA student handbooks; the July 2025 check register; approval for Kelli Tuller to attend the Annual MASA Conference in Traverse City, Sept. 16'19, 2025; and adoption of the 2025'26 MHSAA Membership Resolution.
Board members offered brief celebrations (England noted the Luna Pier Parade; Grodi mentioned Maplewood Fitness Park). The meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m. on a motion by England, supported by Nehrig.
The next regularly scheduled Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education meeting is set for Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Mason Senior High School Library.
