Community roundup: Community Day, torch run, Rock the Runway, mural project, restaurant reopenings and a police promotion

Jordan Johnson recapped a series of community happenings in Prospect Heights, including Community Day, the Prospect Heights Police Department's participation in the Special Olympics Torch Run, and the Rock the Runway event at Chicago Executive Airport.

The bulletin thanked volunteers and government partners for Community Day and credited Park District and community participation for the event's success. Johnson said officers joined Special Olympics athletes in the Torch Run to "support and celebrate the incredible athletes of Special Olympics Illinois." The Rock the Runway event at Chicago Executive Airport drew strong turnout, the bulletin said.

Johnson also reported that Park District staff partnered with local artist Kate Tully and Eagle Scout candidate Matt Marbury to complete a mural behind the city's recreational center; volunteers from a local Boy Scout troop stained, primed and painted a fence in preparation for the mural. The report encouraged residents to visit the mural.

The bulletin congratulated Sergeant Tyler Farina on his promotion, outlining his career roles—field training officer, officer in charge and corporal, firearms instructor and member of the gang intelligence team—and noting he was named Prospect Heights Police Officer of the Year in 2022 and part of the department's patrol squad of the year for three consecutive years.

Community business notices included the grand reopening of Naomi Sushi and the Riverfront Restaurant at the Hilton Northbrook Hotel (the Riverfront reopening was held June 17). The segment closed by thanking viewers and encouraging attendance at future events.
