During the Town Administrator update at the Jan. 20 meeting, Canaan Fire Chief Chris Olsen requested support to obtain certification as the town’s Health Officer at a cost of $12,000. The Select Board discussed the position’s responsibilities and approved Olsen’s certification by motion (Wells, Johnston).
Separately, the Board reviewed an option to change a previously ordered highway truck to a less expensive model priced at $107,941, representing a $46,000 reduction from the original specification. A motion (Freese, Johnston) to change the truck order passed with a recorded vote of 2-0-1; Sadie Wells abstained.
The Board also approved the Water/Sewer billing warrant for the third and fourth quarters and tabled action on a Dorchester Fire/EMS contract that would have provided $24,000 in fire coverage and $37,095 in EMS coverage until amendments were addressed.
