Demetri Boggs Boggsdale sworn in to fill Lincoln Countys 3rd District seat

The chairman said the board unanimously agreed to submit Boggsdale's name to the chief judge of the Superior Court for formal appointment, citing the statute that created the county commission in 1948. The appointment will run until the Nov. 3 general election, after which the seat will be filled by the election winner.
The nomination drew praise from elected colleagues and community members. Commissioner Beth Antonakis said of the appointee, "When her name came up, there was not a single negative thing that was said. The way you present yourself, the way you treat people just speaks volumes, and I think there's definitely a great fit for you on this board." County attorney Cheryl Gracie welcomed Boggsdale and described the work of the county as "a blessing," noting her own service since January 2025.
Boggsdale, who the chair described as a 1991 graduate of Lincoln County High School and a registered nurse with more than two decades of experience, thanked family members and local pastors and outlined a five-point platform she called the "SWAMP initiative" (servant leadership, stewardship, accountability, meaningful partnership and progress). "I am fully committed in tackling our shared challenges," Boggsdale said, asking for the community's continued support and prayer.
The chairman reviewed the process for filling a vacated commission seat, saying the county's founding act directs that the chief judge of the Superior Court appoints a commissioner based on the board's recommendation. He noted that, because this appointment falls partway through a term, the judge will appoint someone to serve only until the next general election.
Officials also announced a multi-department orientation for the new commissioner, scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. the following day with department heads present. The chair reminded residents that county commission meetings are posted to the Lincoln County YouTube channel and the county website for public viewing.
The ceremony included an invocation delivered by Rev. Dr. Jesse W. Johnson, a ceremonial oath, remarks by Boggsdale and a benediction by an invited pastor. The board then closed the ceremonial portion and attendees took photographs.
Next procedural step: the appointee will serve until the Nov. 3 general election and may run as a candidate in that election.
