Chichester trustees use Judy Clark memorial fund to outfit young-adult area

Chichester Town Library trustees voted to use memorial donations to furnish a newly designated young-adult (YA) area and to recognize the donor with plaques.

At the March 11 meeting trustees approved taking $354.98 from the Judy Clark memorial fund to purchase two chairs and to cover prior teen-area purchases, and they also approved buying plaques to place on the items in Clark’s memory. The motion to allocate the funds and buy plaques passed unanimously; Sophia Johnson moved and Tom Downey seconded the motion.

Director Caroline Pynes will place information about the donation in the next library newsletter and will set up a folder of items to include in next year’s town report. Trustees also agreed that all donations should be recorded for the town report and that a separate folder be maintained so the Welch family donation and other contributions can be tracked and accounted for in future budgets.

The trustees earlier authorized a separate YA space and approved purchasing a spinner, table and chairs from the appropriated equipment line to create a distinct teen section; that motion passed at the February meeting. Barb Sweet said she will solicit plaque-sourcing ideas from other libraries via listserv and online vendors.

The decision consolidates recent small expenditures for teen programming and furniture under the memorial fund, rather than the library’s operating lines, and is intended to make donor recognition and tracking simpler for the coming year.

Next steps: Caroline will place the donation copy in the newsletter, create a folder for town-report materials, and maintain a separate folder to track spending tied to donor funds.
