Council authorized staff to proceed with planned stormwater mitigation projects north of Waldo Hatler Memorial Drive by approving a CDBG administration agreement and a professional engineering contract.
The council approved Ordinance 226-12 to engage the Harry S. Truman Coordinating Council to administer Community Development Block Grant funds (not to exceed $70,617) for project administration, environmental review, labor standards compliance and financial management related to the Walter Hatler detention ponds.
Separately, the council authorized a not-to-exceed $473,000 contract with Algar Martin and Associates for engineering and technical administration services to design and implement two detention basins (referred to as H7 and H8) as part of the city's flood mitigation strategy. Staff explained the engineering contract complements the CDBG-administered funding and the items were approved 6-0.
Staff said further design and implementation steps will follow, and the city will post public notices and continue outreach as project details are finalized.
