Congressman Roger Williams said Republicans should emphasize a pro‑business record—permanent tax cuts, deregulation and energy policy—to persuade voters ahead of the midterm elections, and publicly faulted schools for not teaching civics and history.
"We've made tax cuts permanent. We've cut regulations... 100% expensing, saving the family farm with a $30,000,000 inheritance tax level now," Williams said, listing policies he cited as economic strengths. He urged keeping interest rates from rising and bringing energy prices down as priorities for supporting Main Street.
Asked how Republicans should respond to younger voters who favor candidates describing themselves as socialists, Williams said, "we have to talk about capitalism, entrepreneurship, opportunities, and a strong military." He added that schools and colleges are not adequately teaching history and civics and said colleges should present both sides of issues.
Williams framed these points as part of the campaign argument: present results on the economy and avoid "going down the dirt roads" on divisive issues. He did not lay out a step‑by‑step campaign plan, legislative proposals tied to those priorities or data linking school curricula to voting patterns by young people.
