Residents raise traffic and utility concerns over Daleville data center; council seeks county update

During the public-comment portion of the Nov. 13 meeting, residents told the town council they are worried about local impacts from the data center project in nearby Daleville.
Resident Dean Clemons said the construction will create "a huge disturbance" for traffic trying to access and exit Interstate 81 and expressed concerns about higher water and electricity usage and whether utilities can handle the added demand. Another commenter, identified in the minutes as Mr. Bandy, said he is concerned property values within a two-mile radius of the data center could fall.
Scott Critzer told the council the county is updating its Land Use Comprehensive Plan and urged residents to participate and submit questions as the review proceeds. Mayor Mary Bess Smith said she will ask Rich Evans to provide an update on the status of the retaining wall at the new courthouse in town and will contact county officials to request a briefing on the data center and its anticipated impacts.
The council did not take formal action on the data center during the Nov. 13 meeting; Mayor Smith27s outreach to county staff was recorded as the next step in response to public questions.
