Lions Club warns Emmitsburg fireworks may end without extra funding; town says budget review possible

At the March 2 meeting Commissioner Sweeny (speaker 2) warned that rising fireworks costs threaten the town’s annual display and asked for help coordinating fundraisers or contributions. "This will be the last fireworks of Emersburg for the Lions Club if we don't get any help because we're we don't can't raise enough money to cover the fireworks," Sweeny said, noting the cost increased from about $10,000 to $15,000 this year.
Commissioners discussed possible partnerships (Knights of Columbus, town support) and fundraising ideas. Mayor Davis (speaker 10), participating by Zoom, said he will "look at the budget" and see if the town can provide some assistance, and urged officials to coordinate to get an electrician into the concession stand to allow tournaments and concessions to proceed on schedule.
No formal vote was taken; commissioners asked staff to explore funding options and report back at a future meeting.
