The Kandiyohi City Council on June 15 authorized a comprehensive financial analysis to determine the city’s capacity to proceed with future phases identified in the Preliminary Engineering Report after current street and utility improvements are finished.
Council Member Spencer Hunt moved to authorize the analysis; Council Member Jeff Clark seconded and the motion carried. The analysis will evaluate the city’s financial position and quantify the impact of more than $8 million in federal and State of Minnesota earmarked grant funding identified for the project.
The study is intended to clarify whether the city can commit to subsequent construction phases and to inform budgeting and bonding decisions. Council did not set a timeline for completing the analysis during the meeting.
The authorization followed council discussion of the ongoing street and utility work; staff and council members indicated the analysis is a prerequisite to deciding whether to proceed with later phases that would rely in part on grant funding.
Next steps: staff will oversee and procure the analysis; council will review results before taking any further funding or contracting decisions.
