Forest Heights amends audit engagement to ensure council review before state filing

Forest Heights' mayor and council voted unanimously April 6 to hire Lindsay & Associates LLC to perform the town’s fiscal year end 2026 audit and amended the engagement language to ensure the council will receive the audit report for review prior to state filing.
Council President Noble raised concerns that the engagement letter’s distribution language referenced town management but did not explicitly include elected officials. After a period of discussion, the council amended the fourth whereas clause to insert wording that the audit deliverable will be provided "to all elected officials," including the mayor and council members. Mayor Lily said the council had agreed with the auditor that the council would receive a version before it goes to the state and recorded that understanding in the minutes.
Council member Brownson said she was not satisfied with the prior auditor’s performance on earlier engagements; staff and the treasurer said the state had no substantive findings requiring council action on recent audits. The amended resolution passed unanimously on roll call.
