Fincastle council approves monthly bills, treasurer's report, staff bonuses and a $100 donation

At its Dec. 11 meeting the Fincastle Town Council approved routine year-end financial items and two community payments.
Council approved the December 2025 monthly bills (motion by Ed Bordett, second Barry Rakes) and the November 2025 Treasurer's Reports (motion by Paige Ware, second Pam Binns). Both motions passed unanimously.
Council received a management report that the town's well pump had been replaced; the pump cost $3,500 and labor costs were reported as $5,300. Council was also told that an updated Hazard Mitigation Plan presentation has been postponed until January, the Christmas parade was a success, and the Tinsel Tree Trail opening ceremony was canceled due to snowy weather. First Bank plans a tentative Dec. 19 hot-chocolate event.
Under other matters, council approved a $200 Christmas bonus for each town staff member (motion by Ed Bordett, second Paige Ware) and approved a $100 donation to Sirens and Salutes in appreciation of Bill Price serving as Santa in the parade (motion by Mayor Mary Bess Smith, second Clay Fitzgerald); both measures passed unanimously.
Mayor Mary Bess Smith noted that Rich Evans will attend the Jan. 8 meeting to update council and interested residents on construction progress. The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
