The Emerald Isle Board of Commissioners on March 10 heard a range of routine town updates, recognized staff, and received one public comment while conducting its regular business.
Natasha Fogle used the public‑comment period to thank the town for support of a fundraiser for Captain Stuart Gilgo; she said the event raised $42,000. Interim Fire Chief Will Coffey introduced the town's newest firefighter, Vincent Malizia. Tula Satterfield of the Emerald Isle Garden Club briefed the Board on plans to install a Gold Star Memorial adjacent to the boat ramps and said the dedication will be Thursday, April 16 at 2 p.m.; the Board expressed support for the memorial.
Town Manager Frank Rush provided several updates, including conceptual, early plans for a multi‑town beach nourishment project, ongoing work on Cape Emerald Pond dredging, park improvements, and a note that there is a funding shortfall for Fire Station 2; he said staff will explore options to close that gap. Rush also advised caution to drivers while Reed Drive work is underway.
The meeting included routine consent items such as equipment purchases and NCDOT encroachment‑permit authorization for a roundabout flagpole; the consent agenda was approved 5-0. The Board entered a closed session at 6:08 PM under N.C.G.S. §143‑318.11(a)(6) to consult with the Town Manager on personnel matters; minutes for the closed session were sealed under N.C.G.S. §143‑318.10(e). The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:37 PM.
