The Portland Board of Education voted to approve an extended leave request for BCBA Nicole Parisi, who is expecting a baby and will return after the winter break in January. Sarah, the director of student services, explained the district identified a BCBA known to the district ("Kate") who will provide contracted hours through CREC to cover Nicole’s caseload rather than a long‑term substitute within the bargaining unit.
The board moved and seconded the leave approval (motion made by Annie and seconded by Dave) and approved it by voice vote. Chair congratulated Nicole and trustees noted the district has begun transition work, including document sharing and case handoffs, to ensure continuity of services for students.
Sarah said the contractor has worked with Portland in limited capacities and that Nicole will return in January, and staff are actively interviewing for other open positions in student services.
