Votes at a glance: Oakland council approves hires, permits and fee changes; several ordinances set for Sept. 9
Summary
At its Aug. 26 meeting the Oakland Mayor and Council approved the hiring and swore in a new SLEO, adopted a filming-fee ordinance and amended recreation fees, approved consent-agenda resolutions and licenses, and introduced capital and property ordinances that will return Sept. 9 for final action.
The Oakland Mayor and Council on Aug. 26 approved a series of personnel actions, permits and ordinances.
Hiring and oath: Council approved Resolution 25-2-46 to authorize hiring Rodrigo DeRoche as a Class 3 special law-enforcement officer for Valley School; DeRoche was sworn in and recited the oath of office.
Consent agenda and permits: The council approved the consent agenda covering resolutions 25-2-27 through 25-2-57 on a roll call (one recorded abstention). Raffle licenses and social-affairs permits for local charities and the Oakland Elks were approved as part of that consent agenda.
Appointments: The mayor’s appointments of Ben Eiler to the Oakland Sustainable Green Team and Veronica O’Brien to the Arts Committee were approved by council consent.
Filming ordinance: Council completed the final adoption of Ordinance 25-9-71 (filming fees) after opening public comment and recording no speakers; the roll-call sequence recorded five yes votes and one abstention (Councilman Pignatelli recorded as abstaining). The ordinance sets fees for shooting pictures in the borough. (Transcript vote entries: Sluszynski — yes; McCann — yes; Pignatelli — abstain; Rose — yes; Saliani — yes; Tallamini — yes.)
Recreation fee schedule: Council adopted Ordinance 25-9-72 to amend the recreation fee schedule. The roll call showed one no vote (recorded for Councilman McCann) and the ordinance passed.
Capital ordinance introduction: Council introduced Capital Ordinance 25-9-74 to fund an inflow-and-infiltration project in the Oakwood Knolls sewer-collection system; staff said the project is fully funded from the sewer utility budget and adoption is scheduled for Sept. 9 to allow contract award once financing is available.
Bills and finance: Council approved bills to be paid totaling $2,984,090.14.
What’s next: Several items introduced for public hearing — including Ordinance 25-9-73 (property maintenance) and Capital Ordinance 25-9-74 — are scheduled for final adoption with public comment at the Sept. 9 council meeting.
