At its Oct. 1 meeting the New Melle Planning and Zoning Commission approved two volunteer applicants, recommended a bank sign application to the Board of Aldermen pending an engineering review, and scheduled a public hearing on a rezoning request.
Chairman Stefanko called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. and Commissioners Duggan, Sims and Hanner were present. Commissioner Sims moved to approve the agenda, seconded by Commissioner Duggan; the motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Duggan then moved to approve the minutes of the Aug. 6, 2024 Planning and Zoning meeting, seconded by Commissioner Hanner; that motion also passed unanimously.
The commission accepted volunteer applications for Mr. William Pollihan and Mr. Sam Cummins. Commissioner Sims moved to accept Pollihan’s application, Commissioner Duggan seconded, and the motion passed unanimously; the commission recommended the application be presented to the Board of Aldermen for final approval. Commissioner Duggan moved to accept Cummins’s application, Commissioner Sims seconded; that motion likewise passed unanimously and will be forwarded to the Board of Aldermen for final action.
Planning and Zoning reviewed an application to rezone 678 Foristell Rd., a parcel in the Auden Meadows subdivision, from AG (Agriculture) to R-1E (Single-Family Residential). The commission scheduled a public hearing on that rezoning for Oct. 28, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall and stated that a formal vote to recommend the rezoning to the Board of Aldermen will follow the public hearing; commissioners raised no questions during the review.
Commissioner Sims moved to accept a new sign application for Peoples Bank, with Commissioner Duggan seconding, contingent on approval from Cochran Engineering. The motion passed unanimously and the commission recommended the sign application to the Board of Aldermen for final approval.
The minutes list the next Planning and Zoning meeting as Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. The commission voted unanimously to move the meeting date because Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024 is Election Day. Commissioner Sims moved to adjourn, Commissioner Hanner seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
Next steps: the Board of Aldermen will consider the commission’s recommendations on the two volunteer appointments and the Peoples Bank sign permit; the rezoning request for 678 Foristell Rd. will return for a formal recommendation after the Oct. 28 public hearing.
