Cochran Engineering reported to the New Melle Board of Aldermen on Aug. 13 that several local infrastructure projects are moving through design and permitting stages.
Brad Brueggemann said Mr. Nash has accepted the agreement for Mill Street improvements and Schutzen Street sidewalk replacement and that a signed agreement is forthcoming; Cochran is discussing a temporary construction easement (TCE) with a property owner. A meeting with Brightspeed real estate personnel is scheduled to address right-of-way or utility issues. Preliminary plans for the Foristell Road trail have been submitted to the Missouri Department of Transportation for review; construction is tentative for September 2026 when funds become available.
The board tabled a request to release escrowed funds related to the grading permit for the new fire station pending further discussion. In new business, the board agreed that a culvert repair on Foristell Road will be handled through the city’s Emergency Repair Contract. The city will also review comparable salaries for a part-time code enforcement officer; staff will send letters to property owners about code violations and allow 60 days to comply before pursuing legal action.
No contract awards or final budget approvals were recorded at the Aug. 13 meeting; several items remain subject to forthcoming agreements, bids and MoDOT review.
