Planning department report shows fewer nuisance cases, more permits and modest fee revenue gain

At the April 27 meeting, Planning Director John Nevel summarized the Planning Department's January activity and recent trends: active public nuisance files dropped to 29 from 65 in September, 14 of which involve building without permits. Nevel reported the department issued 75 zoning permits in March (including zoning, demolition and tree removal permits) and said April showed an increase, with 82 permits currently in progress.
Nevel also reported zoning fee revenue of $9,730 for March, an increase from previous months though no multi-month revenue trendline was provided. The board did not propose any immediate policy changes based on the report and thanked staff for their work.
Chairman Kenneth Sullivan used the comments period to highlight the new Gold Star Memorial at the public boat ramp and encouraged residents to visit. Nevel provided a brief update on restoration-plan efforts tied to a recent major dune violation and said the department is coordinating with the Division of Coastal Management and the County Building Inspector.
The board voted to adjourn at approximately 6:30 p.m.
