The Emerald Isle Board of Commissioners voted April 14 to authorize submission of an application for an NC Public Beach and Waterfront Access Grant to fund a roughly 270‑foot extension of the Channel Drive public beach access walkway.
Candace Dooley presented the grant request and noted applications are due in 10 days. Commissioner Alesia Sanderson asked staff to explore adding expanded parking to make the area ADA‑compliant. Commissioner Roy Brownlow moved to adopt the resolution authorizing the grant application, including exploring ADA parking improvements; the motion passed 4‑0.
The resolution authorizes staff to prepare and submit the grant application and to evaluate adding parking improvements for ADA compliance as part of the project scope and budget if feasible.
